Resident Outing to the Art Museum

October 1, 2021
After patiently waiting, residents have finally been able to venture back out into their communities. The residents at Capri Gardens had the opportunity to take a trip to The Columbus Art Museum. Arts and crafts is a large focal point of the activity department at Capri Gardens. Creativity flows through the halls here, whether it's painting canvases or nails, building structures, or making art out of recycled goods - Capri residents have an eye for ART!

Facility outings with the activity department have been a huge hit this summer. Whether it's shopping, going out to get ice cream or bowling, the residents always come back smiling. This art museum outing was such a success that the Capri bus made the trip multiple times on different days! The Capri residents enjoyed viewing the exhibits as many of them have practiced with different mediums of art over the years themselves. If you walk down the halls at Capri Gardens, you will notice many of the resident doors are covered in photos, magazines, handmade art, and colorful signage.

The outing allowed Capri Gardens staff to learn more about their residents and what interests and hobbies they have participated in throughout their lives. Many of the residents agreed that the beauty of art is within the eye of the beholder. Our resident council president shared that creating art makes her feel free and that art is a wonderful comparison to life - it's whatever you make of it!

Some of the popular exhibits were the LEGO City sculpture and the entire room dedicated to the crochet exhibit. The residents also enjoyed browsing the gift shop! Most of all, the resident enjoyed getting out of the facility for a day, going on a scenic route bus ride, and getting to learn and see new things with their peers.

This past year, during the global pandemic, facilities have had to get creative with activities to attempt to reduce the transmission of Covid-19. All of the PPE and social distancing made it difficult to feel any sort of normalcy within day-to-day life. Each time Capri Gardens takes our bus out full of residents, it gives us all something to look forward to; it gives us a day to enjoy with our family, friends, and coworkers away from our typical setting.

Capri Gardens would like to thank the facility activity director, maintenance director, medical records clerk, admissions director, and family volunteers for making this big outing possible! Capri Gardens looks forward to many more outings with our residents this fall!
